The Comfrey Root Oil can be applied direct or added to recipes for salves, creams, soaps etc. As well as being high in allantoin, comfrey root is also very high in silica. The roots are very smooth and slippery due to this silica content. This imparts a wonderful effect on the skin. As well as being known as "Knitbone" comfrey has also been know as "a woman's best friend" due to its skin regeneration properties. It is for this reason that it should not be used on open wounds as it can heal over the skin too fast but is great for rashes etc. and especially good for scar tissue.
I make both comfrey root oil and comfrey leaf oil, I believe that the comfrey root oil is more powerful and deeper acting than the leaf oil. The root is harvested in late winter when the levels of allantoin, the most active ingredient, are highest and when its properties are strongest. It is then processed by cleaning and removing the root bark. The silky, slippery roots, which you can see in one of the photos are then infused into Australian certified organic extra virgin olive oil, applying minimum heat for maximum potency.
Most people buying Comfrey Root oil would also benefit from my balm Comfrey Comfort massage balm which contains the "Herb of Grace" rue which is infused into the comfrey root oil, along with kunzea essential oil which has been scientifically proven to reduce pain and a magic blend of other essential oils.
The comfrey oil is made in small batches to ensure maximum freshness and we have developed methods to ensure maximum potency all year round. It also includes a little natural vitamin E and rosemary extract which are both rich in antioxidants and lengthen shelf life. It has a lovely earthy scent which is not affected by the rosemary extract.
Always test any new topical product by dabbing a few drops onto the skin, leaving overnight and ensuring that there is no adverse reaction.

A good part of my life is spent growing, harvesting and processing comfrey. I love it. You can see in the photos the root just harvested, the root with its root bark still on and the residue root bark once it has been removed. It is this root bark that contains most of the pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are the substances within comfrey that have been found to be problematic if ingested in large quantities. This substance is also present in the leaves. I think there would only be microscopic amounts of these PAs in my Comfrey root oil and balm.
The growing of comfrey improves the soil.....the roots break up clay, the leaves grow vigorously thru spring and summer and start to die back in autumn returning to the soil all the minerals that have been mined by the strong roots. So, the soil improves every year and the comfrey just gets more and more powerful and potent. Beautiful soil....beautiful products....beautiful YOU!
